This page provides esources you can use to help children learn algebraic reasoning in Pre-K through 4th grade. According to Van de Walle (2014), "the core idea of algebraic reasoning or algebraic thinking is looking for and finding relationships and building a structure with those relationships."

According to the CCCS, what do Pre-K through 1st Graders need to know in regard to Algebraic Reasoning:

CC.2.2.1.A.1: Represent and [[#|solve problems]] involving addition and [[#|subtraction]] within 20. (Gabby N.)
CC.2.2.PreK.A.1: Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from. (Gab A.)
CC.2.2.K.A.1: Extend the concepts of putting together and taking apart to add and subtract within 10. (Clare)
CC.2.2.1.A.2: Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction. (Jess Brown)CC.2.2.2.A.2 Use mental strategies to add and subtract within 20 (Andreia)

This website has games from pre-k up to high school, and i think that's pretty cool. It can grow with what the student is learning and it also has links to other websites with other cool games: Math Blaster! (Nicole P)

I would use this activity as a way to introduce yourself to your new fourth grade classmates and teacher in the beginning of the year! I think this is a cute, fun, and easy idea for all students, no matter their level. As long as they can explain it to the class, it's acceptable!! (Danielle G)
